BEC Resources

BEC content is the result of 15 years of research and ongoing development by a team of emergency nurses and physicians. The principal interests of the development team are in the fields of surveillance, ED informatics, and evidence-based medicine. Publications by team members have appeared in Academic Emergency Medicine, Annals of Emergency Medicine, Canadian Medical Association Journal, the Canadian Journal of Public Health and JAMA. Team members have also contributed to the Cochrane Collaboration.

The first BEC product was a paper-based template charting system that was used to document care in over 400,000 patient encounters. Based on client feedback and ongoing research, the content from this paper-based system has been converted into both a print on demand product and a sophisticated electronic charting tool.
