Which product is right for my ED?

In your decision making process, consider the following:

  • What is your greatest requirement - patient movement i.e. tracking; triage; nurse/MD documentation; productivity improvement; care standardization ; risk management; patient education?
  • How quickly do you want to get system up and going - ePOD immediate gratification, EDIS/iCHARTPRO - 4-6 months away?
  • What capital funds are available?

ePOD and iCHARTPRO are complementary and have been designed to ease the transition from one product to the next as resources become available. For example, the administrative program, which allows your site administrator to change, add or remove any content, is the same for both ePOD and iCHARTPRO. Likewise, the electronic triage process is similar in both ePOD and the EDIS products. Content layout for both nurses and physicians in ePOD and iCHARTPRO is comparable, easing the transition from paper to electronic charting.

What is the difference between ePOD and iCHARTPRO?

ePOD is a freestanding product. There is no interfacing with ADT or other hospital systems. Once triage occurs, nursing and physician charts are printed and registration takes place as usual.
Advantages of ePOD include:

  • Minimal change to workflow
  • Minimal support from IS required
  • Short time frame from approval to implementation - less that four hours of training required per nurse, time from approval to implementation can be as short as 4-6 weeks
  • Minimal investment in hardware - charting is done using regular paper and a clipboard
  • Cost is on a per use basis - contract can be as short as month by month

iCHARTPRO requires installation of EDIS. Interfacing with ADT and other systems offers certain benefits. A project implementation study is recommended prior to installation.
Advantages of iCHARTPRO include:

  • A completely paperless ED is created
  • The right information is always available wherever and whenever required
  • Electronic support throughout the whole patient encounter is provided improving regulatory compliance and improving patient safety

In summary, you have the opportunity of using ePOD alone, EDIS alone, EDIS with a print on demand nursing /physician record, or EDIS with iCHARTPRO
